Soul food recipes is becoming popular again thanks to President Obama. Not only has an African American made history by coming to the White House, but soul food cooking has too. It's a fact, President Barack Obama loves his sweet potatoes pie. Another Presidential favorite is southern peach cobbler. Reporters have consistently spotted the President purchasing peach cobbler to-go, from various restaurants. On various occasions he's talked about his love for peach cobbler during news interviews.
This popular southern cuisine has made reached a culinary milestone back in 2009 as the White House hosted the first soul food brunch in American history. Such menus items as Grits, Fried Chicken, Barbecue Ribs, Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Salad, Candied Yams, Peach Cobbler and other popular southern dishes were served.
On the Presidential campaign trail scores of women offered to make Presidential candidate Barack Obama pie! Causing the President to remind them not to just make them any pie, but they must make him sweet potato pie! The President makes no apologies for his love of this tasty southern cuisine. With the pressures of the Office, he sees this southern comfort food as a once-in-a-while treat to his taste buds.
Because of his love of southern cooking, the President is responsible for putting a huge list of restaurants on the map. Many have become overnight sensations because of a Presidential visit or even a casual mention.
The President is rumored to have a list of soul food restaurants on hand whenever he's away from the White house on Presidential business. It's now an exciting guessing game for restaurants in the vicinity of Presidential visits to guess where he'll eat lunch or pop in for an order to go.
And of course the First Lady Michelle Obama has won rave reviews and applause for her history making White House garden. The popular garden known around the world, includes an assortment of popular vegetables including collard greens, a soul food menu favorite. Sweet potatoes have also been a favorite vegetable planted in the garden, they're used for soul food favorites like sweet potato pie, candied yams and sweet potato soup to name a few.
Yes, thanks to President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama, the soul food industry has received a welcome boost in popularity. Restaurants, websites, recipe books and even television cooking shows are starting to blossom. No doubt as a result of the spotlight shined by the President and First lady this popular southern cuisine will continue to expand into new markets.
